An intro of Literary Terms

Act: A major division in the action of the play. Such a division was introduced into England by Elizabethan dramatists, who imitated the roman playwright Seneca by structuring the action into five acts.

Affective Fallacy: It is defined as the error of evaluating a poem by its effects- especially its emotional effects- upon the reader.

Allusion: In a work of literature is a brief reference, explicit or indirect, to a person, place, or event, or to another literary work or passage.

Chorus: Among the ancient Greeks the chorus was a group, wearing masks, which sang or chanted verse while performing dance like maneuvers at religious festivals.

Comic Relief: It is the use of humorous characters, speeches, or scenes in a serious or tragic work, especially a dramatic work.

Criticism: It is the branch of study concerned with defining, classifying, expounding, and evaluating works of literature.

Doggerel: It is a term applied to rough, heavy footed, and jerky versification.

Elizabethan Age: It denotes the period of Queen Elizabeth’s reign, 1558-1603. this was the a time of great development in English commerce, maritime power and nationalist feeling- the defeat of the Spanish Armada occurred in 1588.

Epiphany: It means “a manifestation”, and by Christian thinkers was used to signify a manifestation of God’s presence in the world.

Figurative Language: It derives from what we apprehend as the standard significance or sequence of words, in order to achieve special meaning or effect.

Heroic Couplet: Lines of iambic pentameter which rhyme in pairs aa,bb and so on.

NAKED FEAR -Awareness Essay

Once my dear friend was traveling on bus erode to coimbatore. She was studying at coimbatore MA ENG LIT. Sh took a ticket placed seat in the front row after the driver's seat. Next to her there were two idiots nearly 20-25 years of age. The girl was waiting black dress. They started to tease her by calling BLACKY ... HEY BLACKY...

After few calling, suddenly the girl turned and shouted that if u didn't stop, bus would go to police station but not place. The conductor and the driver joined her and started to scold them. Their head fell with ashamed feeling. 

Here is the point to think.

1.Who gave rights to tease a girl by her dress / colour?

2.What will they feel whether their sister/mother affect by this same thing?

3.Don't their parents teach how a girl should be treated?

4.Did they forget that her mother is also a girl once upon a time?

5.Is this small unaware attitude towards women leads to big disaster?

White colour Relationship - My 51st Post

There are so many responsibilities for humans regarding relationships. This starts from womb and ends at graveyard. The saints are also included in this responsibilities. For saints God , Mother and Devotees are relations. He must maintain the pure relationship among them. Not only for human beings, animals also. The relationship is same but dimensions only differs. In the life of human being every ship is valuable and precious.

In India there is hardly joint families. There is less unity. People are split into pieces and lead monotonous life. There is rare attachment between relationships. Money only matters in this materialistic world. That kind is relationships are not permanent. Sometimes it creates enemy.

"AIR WITHOUT OXYGEN = HOME WITHOUT LOVE" turned into house.

The main disadvantage of relationship today is possessiveness. Dominating attitude is one of the main reasons for failure. The main purpose and real meaning of pure relationship is giving strength in disaster time. The pure relationship needs support and encouragement. Give our hand and maintain the white color.

Politics and English Language - Short summary

This is a short summary and analysis on George Orwell’s master prose piece POLITICS AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE. This piece is first published in 1946, Horizon Journal. He explains how the language should be use regarding writing.

He opens his masterpiece by saying, “The great enemy of language is insincerity”. Insincerity in writing leads to destruction of work. This leads to decline and fall of a language. Insincerity in language leads to foolish thoughts. The foolish thought in language means unclean use of language. He compares unclean usage as the language of drunkard man.

He gives some examples to prove the importance of language. Mrs. Cecily Vaughan, headmistress gave a translating work from Bible. According to the work every students must translate a passage from King James’ Bible. After the translation students realized their poor English and understood the importance of clarity.

Walter Christie, the follower of Orwell preached the values of simplicity, honesty and avoidance of verbiage in a language. Later he was frequently mentioned in Orwell’s work.

The author listed out the six rules for the standard writing regarding English language:

1. Never use a metaphor, simile or any other figures of speech.

2. Never use long word where short ones do.

3. If it is possible to cut a word, cut it out.

4. Use only active voice.

5. Never use foreign words, scientific words or jargon.

6. Breaking of any rules which mentioned above is leads to barbarous writing.

There is small controversy in his point. The first point is not to use any figures of speech. In fact the figure of speech adds some beauty to poems etc. He says that not to write about false things and imaginations. For Literature falseness and extreme imaginations are vital one. If one avoids those things how could be a work as work.
