EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CHANGES OF A DYING MAN WITH REFERENCE TO MITCH ALBOM’S TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE

Chapter I (Part II)

LITERARY GENRES

According to the classists, the major classification of literature is
comedy and tragedy. Nowadays the list of possible types and genres of
literature can seem endless. But it is still possible to narrow down the vast
amount of literature available into a few basic groups. The five genres of
literature that anyone should be familiar with are poetry, drama, prose, non
fiction, and media.

According to Lynn Z Bloom, “The poem was the record of the best and
the happiest moments of the best and the happiest minds” (Web). Wordsworth
claims that poetry is a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings. While
comparing these arguments, the latter is more reliable. No matter a person is
happy or sad, it is an overflow of powerful feelings. From this justification, a
poem is highly attached to emotions.

Drama is an exciting, emotional, or unexpected event or circumstance. It
is “a piece of writing that tells a story and is performed on a stage”, defines
Merriam-Webster. A play is divided into acts and scenes. It has been
categorised as comedy and tragedy. During the Shakespearean era, it was
divided into many forms, based on its nature.

Prose is a written or spoken language in its ordinary form, without
metrical structure. It applies a natural flow of speech, and ordinary grammatical
structure rather than rhythmic structure, such as in the case of traditional
poetry. Normal every day speech is spoken in prose and most people think and
write in prose form.  Prose comprises of full grammatical sentences which
consist of paragraphs and forgoes aesthetic appeal in favour of clear,
straightforward language. It can be said to be the most reflective of
conversational speech. Some works of prose do have versification and a blend
of the two formats that is called prose poetry.

Fictional writing is non-factual. It is used for entertainment purpose.
Mostly it is in the form of a story. It may be in the form of short story, novel
etc. It is a literary form which is more informative rather than fictional. Fiction
is a kind of imagination. Non-fiction is a part of real life. Memoir is another
non-fiction form which deals with the story of real people and real events.

MEMOIR

Memoir writing is another popular literary form in non-fictional prose
writing. It is different from an autobiography. Autobiography deals with the
history of a person, dealing with his entire life, whereas memoir deals with just
a part of his life. Jeannette Walls says:

One of the lessons I’ve learned from writing this memoir is how
much we all have in common. So many of us think that certain
things only happened to us and somehow they make us less of a
person. I’m constantly urging people, especially older folks, to
write about their lives. It gives you a new perspective. It was
hugely eye-opening for me and very cathartic. Even if the book
hadn't sold a single copy, it would still have been worth it. (qtd.
in Joe Kita: Web)

When she was 44, The Glass Castle was published. It has been on the
New York Times bestseller list for almost three years. It has been sold more
than two million copies, has been translated into 23 languages, and will soon be
released as a movie. It is about Jeannette Walls’ encounter on poverty in her
youth age. Another famous work which is similar to this memoir is The Last
Lecture, written by Randy Pausch. It is a collection of the last lectures by
Randy who suffered from Pancreatic cancer.

Another famous memoir is Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. It is
about the conversations between a student and his professor. Their
conversations are based on the philosophies of the meaning of life, the purpose
of life, the why of life and so on. The major attraction of this work is the
concept of near-death awareness. It is more emotional and widely popular among readers,

This is my PG level project. I will update my whole project in a regular manner.

Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

LITERATURE

Literature is excellent of form or expression and expresses ideas of
permanent or universal interest. It consists of standard works and ideas which
explore in an artistic way. It is ornamented by the power of imagination and the
power of emotion. Literature and emotion are closely concatenated to each
other. A human without emotion is like a body without soul. Hence, literature
and human life are highly inseparable.

LITERATURE AND CULTURE

Culture is a wider aspect than literature. In the teaching of culture,
literature plays different roles. It serves either as illustration or marks beginning
for the study and mediation of cultural phenomena. A single book is not
enough to define a culture. At some point, it helps to get an idea of a culture.
Even if a culture endangers, it is made immortal through literary works. Many
antiquated cultures are surviving because of literary works.

LITERATURE AND HUMAN LIFE

Literature, culture and human life have a triangular relationship. Every
human being is a follower of certain culture. Until his fall, he follows and
protects his culture. Culture configures human life and character. The best way
for persisting culture is through text.

The connection between literature and life is intimate and vital.
Literature is the expression of individual and social life, which is taught
through the effective use of language. Each and every book is an experience
encountered or imagined by the author. Great literature always grasps and
reflects these truths of life that emerge triumphant out of the ruins of the past. The
images that are created by the own observation of life at every moment of working
experience are hazy, half-finished and unrelated. It is the literary artist who
finishes them, makes them clear and puts them in their wider setting, and to that
extent, makes life less obscure, because he knows more about life than anyone can
know. Thus, literature, culture, and life are inseparable from one another.

Curse of justice

First I have to say Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors and producers ever. From his hands the movies like Insomnia, Momento and Blade Runner were fabulous products. The recent products such as Inception and The Dark Knight series are a good example for his talent. His dear friend Zack Snyder is gifted one. If they collaborated for a project, it will become a massive success.

An unbelievable result of their recent product is Dawn of Justice. It may receive massive openings in several areas including India. No doubt it will become one of the best movies of 2016. As for audience it is a terrible failure. This movie doesn’t give complete satisfaction for audience. I analyzed this movie and found some reasons for this terrible failure. They are as follows:

1.       The first and foremost reason is missing of Christian Bale.

2.       The movie is very lengthy for just an ordinary.

3.       I saw many people started to snooze in first one hour.

4.       The screenplay doesn’t create interest on audience. This is the major reason for failure.

5.       It is like something we have to mingle all super heroes. Because of this collaboration, they forgot to focus on screenplay. (They believe art is enough for this film...)

6.       The careful scripting like The Dark Knight series and Inception is missed.

Even though several drawbacks are there the second half acts like a pillar for whole movie. It is not a worst movie but it is unable to satisfy common audience. These intellectuals must try to avoid these errors and have to give big big bigbig verrryyyyyy big blockbuster.

Note: I do not know that I am eligible for this analysis. As a common audience and as a consumer this is my personal opinion regarding the blockbuster Dawn of justice.
