The Elixir (2025)- A Netflix Zombie Horror Movie short Review

  • The Elixir (2025) is directed by Kimo Stamboel, this Indonesian horror-thriller was released on Netflix on 23 October 2025. The original Indonesian title is Abadi Nan Jaya.

  • Plot in brief: In a rural Indonesian village, a herbal remedy (“elixir”) developed by a family business goes awry, unleashing a zombie outbreak. The estranged family must come together to survive the chaos.

What works / major strengths

  1. Visuals & effects – The cinematography and atmosphere receive positive notes—especially the contrast of a rural Indonesian setting with the horror violence.

  2. Horror mechanics & pacing (initially) – The set-up moves quickly, zombies appear fast, and the tension in early scenes is effective.

What doesn’t quite land / major drawbacks

  1. Character logic & decision-making issues – A frequent complaint: characters act implausibly or ignorantly in the face of obvious threats. Many viewers found this frustration undermined immersion.

  2. Narrative depth & pacing problems – While the initial tension is strong, the film is said to lose narrative momentum and become repetitive.

  3. Emotional engagement – Although the family dynamic is central, many critics feel the emotional arcs are under-developed.

Overall, The Elixir (2025) is brought in a tensed initiation but lost the  momentum due to repetitive scenes but hats off for the cinematography. Its just an another Zombie movie.
