Lars Kepler's partial HYPNOTISM

The Hypnotist is one of the best crime page children by Lars Kepler. Lars Kepler is the pen name for the Swedish literary couple Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril. It is one of the page turning Joona Linna series. This time Lars have been taken the concept of the hypnosis. Even though it may be a heart pumping crime thriller it contains some serious defects too. This is going to analyse the merits and demerits of the novel THE HYPNOTIST. As a general reader I want to record some points.

Lars did not give anytime to predict events. This is the major quality for a successful crime thriller. The novel started at some point and ended at another dimension which could not be predict. The major reason to turn page is the word hypnotism. This idea is new for several people. So I turned the page initially in an excited manner. In the middle part I became too much of excited due to surprise twists and turns till it had been reached the climax.

The introduction of the various characters made me to think several predictions. But this excitement lasted only for four hundred pages. The surprise level became a draggy one in the last few pages so I was forced to skip several passages and lines. This novel was failed in several things:

1. There was a lack of clarity regarding the concept hypnotism.
2. The novel started in the new layer but it ended in old layer (revenge).
3. The reasons behind the failure of hypnotism was not clearly explained.
4. The novel should be cut short into four hundred pages and it may become more effective.

This novel was success for the following reasons:

1. Definitely it would be a page turner (particularly it gave horror effect in the Benjamin's kidnap description)
2. The concept of The Hypnotism.
3. They did not miss to record the basic principle of hypnotism.
4. They documented the painful sufferings after the hypnotism.
5. It may be a crime novel but it had all the elements such as love, romance, sentiments etc. These elements helped me to travel the novel without any effect of dullness.

Overall The Hypnotist definitely the best thriller in Joona Linna series but it was a little bit of disappointment from the hands of the cute couple.

Goodreads 3.6/5
My review 5/10
