Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein (2025) is a re-imagination and re-telling of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. We have many flavours or versions of this story. Guillermo's Version is an another epic re-imagination.
His version is not only Sci-Fi horror. This version is Sci-Fi, horror, body horror, tragedy, emotional drama, philosophical .,etc. This genre jar is the unique factor. Let's see who is the real monster here.
The narration plays the key role in this movie. The movie has been divided into two, Victor's Point of view and the monster's point of view. So, the POV and the situation decide wheather a person is good or bad. The viewers can take any POV from this version and they can decide who is a villian.
What works out?
1. The combination of genres.
2. The way Guillermo's style of narrative adaption.
3. The two different POV.
4. The Detailing of the scenes (particularly on organ operations).
5. The cinematography and the perfect BGM.
6. The actors' performances.
What not works?
1. The duration is nearly 152mins. So, obviously its tiring.
2. It is not for common audience/ commercial movie lovers.
3. This 152 minutes of duration is needed for the detailing but many lags throughout the film.
4. There is a confusion among the relationship between the monster and Elizebeth.
Overall, Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein (2025) is one of an unique experience but the duration tests our patience. It is not for children.
