Lars Kepler's partial HYPNOTISM

The Hypnotist is one of the best crime page children by Lars Kepler. Lars Kepler is the pen name for the Swedish literary couple Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril. It is one of the page turning Joona Linna series. This time Lars have been taken the concept of the hypnosis. Even though it may be a heart pumping crime thriller it contains some serious defects too. This is going to analyse the merits and demerits of the novel THE HYPNOTIST. As a general reader I want to record some points.

Lars did not give anytime to predict events. This is the major quality for a successful crime thriller. The novel started at some point and ended at another dimension which could not be predict. The major reason to turn page is the word hypnotism. This idea is new for several people. So I turned the page initially in an excited manner. In the middle part I became too much of excited due to surprise twists and turns till it had been reached the climax.

The introduction of the various characters made me to think several predictions. But this excitement lasted only for four hundred pages. The surprise level became a draggy one in the last few pages so I was forced to skip several passages and lines. This novel was failed in several things:

1. There was a lack of clarity regarding the concept hypnotism.
2. The novel started in the new layer but it ended in old layer (revenge).
3. The reasons behind the failure of hypnotism was not clearly explained.
4. The novel should be cut short into four hundred pages and it may become more effective.

This novel was success for the following reasons:

1. Definitely it would be a page turner (particularly it gave horror effect in the Benjamin's kidnap description)
2. The concept of The Hypnotism.
3. They did not miss to record the basic principle of hypnotism.
4. They documented the painful sufferings after the hypnotism.
5. It may be a crime novel but it had all the elements such as love, romance, sentiments etc. These elements helped me to travel the novel without any effect of dullness.

Overall The Hypnotist definitely the best thriller in Joona Linna series but it was a little bit of disappointment from the hands of the cute couple.

Goodreads 3.6/5
My review 5/10

Annabelle:Creation - The hell for fans

So here it is.. another the most awaiting movie is running theaters now. Let's see how it is...?

ANNABELLE: CREATION is one of the biggest disappointments in this year. This movie is added in the list of The Mummy, Jack Reacher, Alien (2017) etc. The movie Annabelle is unable to fulfill the audience's thirst for thriller. The screenplay is vague. It has been failed what The Conjuring did.

The major reason for the conjuring's success is that it kept the temper. The movie starts with some point and gradually rise its temper step by step and finally it would reached the climax. Annabelle tries the same but it is failed in keeping audience's temper. It does not create any interest among horror phobiacs. Initially it seems like good movie but after an half hour we come to know that movie is filled by whole emptiness.

Generally comparison is common in world cinemas. The comparison on same team's product is unavoidable too. James Wan, as a producer he must focus on some things before release. Lights out is his one of the productions. We know how it is and we know its quality. Annabelle is miserably failed in all these things and it is unexpected.

I do not want to blame director or producer because the film is earning well. All shows are running successfully especially in India. As an audience I can tell the people's reaction. Seriously they are disappointed and some are started to sleep. I can say one thing, The director believes that the toy, the name of the old series and the music is enough to make Annabelle:Creation and his judgement becomes wrong.

I have few questions :

1. Is it necessary that the protagonist must be physically handicapped in this script?

2. Does the home take necessary steps to find her?

3. How did the parents easily believe that she was their child?

4. General audience did not understand the ending? (Annabelle 1 had this murder scene. Here it reveals the loss of continuity)

I do not mean that this is completely worthless but it is unable to fulfill the expectations. It is one time watchable for time pass.

Life from the past - Mary westmacott's novel review

What will you do if you are alone? Imagine that you have to face sudden loneliness without any choice. You may feel irritate or sometimes your mind will start to wander on several things. For a teen it may be thinking of opposite sex. If he/she is matured, he may involve the process of self analysis.

Those kind of self analysis results his/her own life in a positive way or negative way. In the novel Absent in the Spring, the same kind of situation is expressed in a vivid manner. The protagonist happened to face sudden loneliness in her journey. She is matured person so her mind enters into the process of self analysis. She starts to live with the memories of past.
Eighty percent of humans have involve this kind of activities when they are alone. Its hard to control our wandering mind. If you are happend to alone you can analyse yourself but in some occasions it invovles the process of destroying relationship. He/ she may imagine and create the things of their own. This situation is very well illustrated in Mary Westmacott's Absent in the Spring.
She starts to analyse herself in hot desert. Her feelings are often compared with lonely desert. Thus the setting for self analysis is brilliantly handled. The desert denotes the protagonist's lonelyness, mixture of emotions (desert is mixture of both pleasure and pain) etc.
Finally she realises herself and she is satisfied with her life. Thus loneliness is not only a curse. Sometimes it is a boon. Thus living alone is one of the best ways to analyse and actualise oneself. If you take an important decision, let's stay yourself alone and decide brilliantly.

LIT MANIA RATING for Absent in the spring 5.5/10

The Mummy - The collateral Damage

Few days ago Tom Cruise's The Mummy was released. The movie fans were felt goosebumps when they had watched the trailor. Another mass point is Tom Cruise. The audience expected more and more because of title and the caster. Guess what happened?? The movie was unable to satisfy the audience even forty percent. This is totally messed and unexpected. Apart from VFX everything was destroyed. People in the theater started to expect when would the movie end. In fact they started to make script and it is easy to guess. Tom Cruise was tried to act like CRUISE but miserably failed.

Few questions for team:

1. What was the logic behind when the devil chose cruise?

2. Who is another old man character? (The answer may reveal in upcoming series)?

3. Oh my Godshhh... Still there are more series are ready to release?

4. Why Tom Cruise...? Why...?

5. Why there is no new thing in this film?

The Mummy - Totally messed up and fed up due to uninteresting script.

My rating - 3/10

Man to Woman: Sex Reassignment and self Identification through the film “The Danish Girl”

Abstract

“Clad not exactly as a boy but, rather confusingly, as the boy I would have been, had I been more of a girl”

                                                                      - Sarah Waters, Tipping the Velvet

There are three types of sexes in this world. Based on genital appearances a person may be male, female or hermaphrodite. A person’s gender is based on their performances. Male and female are in respectable position but hermaphrodite is not. Hermaphrodite is also known as ‘transgender.’ It means a social status assigned to persons having sex characteristics of both men and women. When he identifies his real face as woman he starts to face the consequences. He acts as victim for getting scolds and insults not even from the society but also from family members. This paper throws the light on man to woman: rediscovering self identity through the film the Danish girl.

Key points: hermaphrodite, transgender, sex reassignment, self identification, rediscovery

What Does "Transgender" Mean?

There are several definitions on the term ‘transgender.’ The most apt and the common definition are - the word “trans” means cross, the word transgender means “cross gender”. It can be transition of male to female or female to male.

The psychiatric term for transgender is “trans sexual” which means they belong to a gender by his/her birth but later they will identify his/her true gender identity. This transition can happen through hormone therapies and genital surgeries.

It is hard to live as transgender in this society. They are suffering pains in physically as well as mentally. They undergo severe pain after their surgery. Their life become miserable and they have to face monsters in everyday life.

Transgender in Arts

The term transgender is first used in 1965 by the psychiatrist John F.Oliven of Columbia University in the second edition of his reference work Sexual Hygiene and Pathology. Later there were several fiction and non-fiction published. From ancient times transgender have been getting attention in literature and films. Today, they are occupying frequent space in pages and screens.

For example Trans America, The Danish Girl, My Life is Pink, Beautiful Boxer, Boys meet Girls are the most famous transgender films. Cobra by Severo Sarduy, Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg, Gender Outlaw by Kate Bornstein, Man Enough to be a Woman by Jayne County are famous transgender books. Most of these works are dealing with gender identities, true love, physical and mental sufferings, cross dressing etc. Transgender literature is a developing area and it is study about third humans’life.

The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl is an American novel by David Ebershoff published in 2007. It is based on Lili Elbe’s real life who identified as the first transgender woman recipient of sex reassignment surgery. The author does not want to give as biography. So the book is combination of real life character and fictionalized writing. The movie version is adapted in the year 2015 and won several prestigious awards.

The portrait artist Gerda Wegener asked her husband, popular landscape artist Einar Wegener, to stand in for a female model who was late to come to their flat to pose for a painting she was working on. This act unmasked Einar's lifelong identification as a woman, whom she had named Lili Elbe. His wife supported him and helped him to go for surgery. Unfortunately, Lili eventually died of complications from the surgery and the movie ended.

The movie portrays the brutality of surgery and self identification of gender. Everyone has been waiting for THEIR moment. According to Elbe’s life THE moment leads to his tragic death even though he chose his own path.

Sex Reassignment theory

Gender-confused patients seek to undergo surgical sex change operations (also known as gender reassignment surgery) to change their external appearance. Patients often undergo psychotherapy, hormone treatment, and facial surgery as well. In psychology it is termed as Gender Confusion. It is a nonclinical term that refers to an individual's feeling of not identifying with his or her assigned gender. The Danish Girl is one of the best films which portray the self identification without any gender confusion.

The most horrible fact in this film is the transition of man to woman. Ordinary people do not know the results of sexual reassignment by surgery. People who have suffered can realise the pain. They may suffered by serious health problems particularly in their genitals. Self identification is the key for all these sufferings. If a person comes to realise that his/her body is not comfortable for living, then the controversial things start to happen. It is due to the hormone changes or the psychological changes. If they start to feel uncomfortable they will not live with his real body. They suffer by depression by these changes. They are unable to live peaceful life even in their home.

In this film the moment of self discovery starts when he tries female costumes and gives a pose for his wife. This makes up his mind to quest for his gender identity. Gradually he starts to find differences in way of his living. He finds change in his sexual life with his wife. He starts to act as female and allows dominate his wife during their intercourse. This is the major key change in his character.

The adaption of female costumes, changes in sexual relationship lead to self identification. It is merely rediscovery of her gender identity. He identifies himself as her and she decides to go for surgery without bothering the social order. Her wife helps to go for surgery. She relocates to Paris to escape from the scandalous society. He does not bother on the impacts and dangers by the surgery. His life is the best example for being what you are. People do not need to apologize being what they are. After Elbe identifies himself as a woman, he wants to change himself as her. He finds distress by his male body and wanted to change as female body through operation.

People have to give respect for another person’s feelings and emotions. We have to find their uniqueness and must encourage them. Elbe is not blaming the society for his tragic death. He claims that he is only responsible for what is happened for him. He blames no one. He wanted to live simply what he is. Initially he may suffered by the gender confusion. Within few days he came to realize what really he was. He prepared to meet death for his gender conquest. His life is a sort of lesson for all transgender who lives in current scenario.

RUMOURS

Journalism plays an eminent role in shaping the society. People believe in newspapers and they are blindly believe that whatever the journalist conveys is news. The situation is changed today. people started to think in 360 degrees on a single news. A kind of awareness is spreading in the current scenario. So, all the newspapers are converting into detective journalism. It makes major contribution to the society.

Social media such as whats app, facebook, hike, messaging apps etc helps to convey messages. In this digitalized world passing messages has become very easy through social media. We can share images, files and videos within a few seconds. Everything in the world contains bad face and good face. the example for lighter side of social media is our honourable prime minister is keeping contact with people through twiingtter and facebook. It helps to find what are the steps taken by government on an issue.

The example for bad face is RUMOURS. It creates several problems and it leads to law and order deficiency. We are using hi speed network. So it can easily spread at the speed of light. There are several chances for misusing social media by creating fake Id's. Sometimes even government cannot find who are responsible for such rumours. We have to stop misusing social media and we have to make restrictions. It must be an organised through these necessary measures.

Resident Evil - The Final Chapter first day review

Resident evil is the another master piece from Paul W.S.Anderson collaborated with our all time favorite Milla. The plot is simple. Alice was informed by Red Queen that anti-virus was found by the same umbrella corporation who was also responsible for T-virus. Red Queen instructed Alice to save the world. Initially Alice regretted RQ's words but later she accepted the challenge to make full stop for the apocalyptic happenings. On her way she found suitable warriors as her friends and shocking truth about her past and future.

As usual it is based on survivor video game. It is unavoidable that movie is like simply a game play that we are usually watching in you tube. The whole movie is burdened on a single person Alice. She is the only reason for the movie's survival for 1.45 minutes. Her screen presence is awesome. Audience can realize her dedication and hard work when they are watching her action sequences. visual effects plays pivotal role and they are at their Everest when they are showing damaged cities, zombies and war scenes. This final chapter survives because of the visual effects and the character Alice.

The movie lacks in screenplay. People are started to fiddle their phones in the middle of film. The director does not care for screenplay simply he believes Milla is enough to cover the whole film. I have to register one more thing that the bullet sounds throughout the film seems irritating. There is missing of rocking theme music and usual slow motion fight scene with zombie monsters. This is another major drawback. The first forty minutes and the last twenty minutes are in jet speed and the film ends with unexpected twist. The surprise triple blast (relationship between the red queen, Alice and an old lady) and poetic ending makes audience to forget all the negative aspects of the film.

Overall, Resident Evil The Final Chapter is satisfied film and it is worth to watch.
